Jack Parlett is a writer, poet, academic and author of Fire Island: A Queer History (2022), which was named a New York Times Notable Book and one of the Best Books of the Year in the New Yorker. He completed a PhD on cruising and poetry at Cambridge University, where he now teaches English, and published this project as a monograph, The Poetics of Cruising: Queer Visual Culture from Whitman to Grindr (2022). He has held fellowships and residencies at Oxford University and Harvard University. His publications as a poet include the pamphlet Same Blue, Different You (2020), and his writing has appeared in the New Yorker, Boston Review, Literary Hub and Document Journal. He lives in East London.
